How do you manage your social media?

The thing with social media is that you kind of need to know a bit about what you are doing if you want to get results.  If you’re just doing it because it makes you feel good, ask yourself if it is worth it and what your business is getting out of it.

Also, have a look at how much time you are spending on this area of your business. Could you, and should you, be doing other things with your time that will have a greater impact on your turnover?

If you truly believe you should be doing it, and you probably should, then you need to make sure you know who your audience is and where they hang out, virtually speaking. Linkedin is great for business to business interaction for example but if you are targeting consumers directly it is probably not the best place for you. Don’t feel like you need to be posting everything everywhere – you don’t and it’s a common mistake to make.  Better to target your audience, in the place or places that they hang out, at a time that they are hanging out there and with messaging that they are interested in.

Most people don’t want to be blatantly sold to so don’t be pushy and mix in some messages that show your businesses personality and also stuff that might be helpful to your customer.  One thing to bear in mind though is that once you start engaging with your audience in this way you can’t really stop or you will lose their attention – this is why making, and sticking to plan, is really important.
